Stakeholder Analysis

Stakeholder Analysis and Engagement: Power/Interest Grid

PM/Change Community 1970s Medium Complexity

Stakeholder Analysis and Engagement is a systematic framework for identifying stakeholders, mapping their power and interest, and developing targeted engagement strategies.

What Is It?

Stakeholder Analysis recognizes that change success depends on people with varying levels of power and interest. The Power/Interest Grid maps stakeholders into four quadrants, each requiring different strategies.

Manage Closely (High Power, High Interest): Key players. Engage deeply. Keep Satisfied (High Power, Low Interest): Meet needs, don't overload. Keep Informed (Low Power, High Interest): Good ambassadors. Monitor (Low Power, Low Interest): Minimal effort.

This framework supports Kotter's 8-Step coalition building and complements Resistance Management.
